Nero for example gets 1 or 2 new devil breakers per mission (at least until M8) and in the end of the game gets his DT and everything that comes with it. Dante gets Sparda at the begining of M11, gets Kalina Ann during M11, Cavaliere at the begining of M12, DSD & SDT at the end of M12, Dr. Faust in M13, King Cerberus after M16 and Kalina Ann II
And the ending overall is similar but Vergil is back to his hard edge personality then his somewhat relaxed playful tone in Vanilla DMC5. Nero suddenly appearing is kinda weird. I think playing the same cutscene and adding a very short one where Nero defeats Vergil is fine if they don't want him as a boss.
